- numerous parks, playgrounds and community centers
Located north of Berkeley and Albany, El Cerrito is a small town comprised mostly of quiet, residential neighborhoods. El Cerrito is blessed with a natural beauty that rivals its more famous neighbors: the hills boast breathtaking views of the Bay and open spaces, parks and recreational areas abound. The tree-lined Hillside Park is a major community asset and the Ohlone Greenway which runs through the city along the BART tracks is another popular outdoor destination.
The shopping districts are located along San Pablo Ave. El Cerrito Plaza - which includes a Trader Joe's, a Barnes and Noble bookstore, and numerous other stores - is a vibrant shopping center that serves El Cerrito and neighboring communities.
El Cerrito schools are part of the West Contra Costa school district; Madera Elementary is especially well regarded; some parts of El Cerrito also have access to the Kensington Elementary School (check with the school district for details). Windrush, Prospect Sierra and Tehiyah Day are all well regarded private schools located in El Cerrito.
El Cerrito has 2 Bart stations; highways 80 and 580 are easily accessible.
