In architecture, the Arts and Crafts movement meant a return to nature and simplicity from the more ornate design elements of the Victorian period. An Arts and Crafts house was designed to be simple and serve the needs of a less complicated life style.  Built-in cabinetry and bookcases eliminated the need for certain furniture.  Most design elements were created from natural materials - brick, stone, and wood.

Designs are often repeated in the detailing of the Arts and Crafts houses.  Boxes in different sizes and configurations show up in floor and ceiling detail. The single stem flower with the flower at both ends of the stem is a design I have seen in different medium in different houses.
