About Rockridge
The neighborhhod of Rockridge is roughly between 51st. Street to the south, Berkeley boarder to the north, Telegraph to the west and Highway 13 to the east.
One of the tenants of development is follow the transportation. A major factor in the desirability of Rockridge as a place to live is the proximity to BART and other forms of transportation to downtown Oakland, San Francisco and areas in Contra Costa County. Rockridge has a vibrant commercial district with upscale shops, gourmet restaurants, produce markets, butcher shops and coffee shops on almost every block of College.
Rockridge was developed in the late 1880s through 1925. Most of the homes are Victorian or Craftsman Style, except in the area of Upper Rockridge (the area between Highway 13 to the east and Broadway to the west) where the Oakland Hills Fire of 1991destroyed most of the homes. The Upper Rockridge area has been almost entirely re-constructed since 1991.
Chabot Elementary School and Peralta Elementary School are both Rockridge Neighborhood schools. Both have excellent reputations.
Rockridge has its own library branch located in the center of the neighborhood. There is a tiny parking lot with meters for anyone wanting to drive because parking in the area can be a challenge.
Most of the housing was developed in the Arts and Crafts Era with a mix of Victorians thrown in.
